The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that on or about June 3, 2019 work on the Saugatuck River Bridge deck in Westport will begin.
Motorists can expect changes in the northbound and southbound directions as concrete barriers will be installed in the vicinity of the Saugatuck Bridge, between Exit 41 and the Clinton Avenue Bridge overpass, to allow construction work with the median of the Bridge. Travel lanes will be shifted to the outside or to the right in each direction. The lanes will remain 10 wide but will be justified to the right side of the roadway. All work will be done with nighttime lane closures. This bridge work is the first stage of four stages of construction to rehabilitate the Saugatuck River bridge deck. Notification of traffic shifts for subsequent stages will be provided in future press releases.
The project will improve a 5 mile section of the Merritt Parkway (Route 15) and restore 11 historic bridges (over and underpasses) from the Newtown Turnpike overpass in Westport to the Congress Street overpass in Fairfield. Roadway improvements include new drainage systems, new Merritt Parkway guiderail and barrier systems, new signing, and upgrades to the roadway pavement to current standards.
